10/7 PTA Meeting recap

We had a large number of attendees at the first PTA meeting of the year, as the topic of discussion was AISD’s consolidation plan, and the SVE PTA’s response. Ms. Navarro spoke, and we worked in groups to prioritize our concerns for the PTA to advocate for. Read the meeting recap in the last PTA newsletter. District consolidation

AISD has released a preliminary plan to consolidate schools. SVE is slated to close next year, with all students given priority to continue at Odom Elementary where the Dual Language program will continue, merged with Odom's smaller dual language student body.

The draft plan has sections that describe the next steps for staff and families. New principals will be chosen in December, and staff mostly settled in January. (At the PTA meeting, we’ll discuss how we might influence this process.) In the spring students can visit their new campus.

 Let’s make sure the district preserves what we love about SVE. Here’s how we can voice our concerns and questions:

Forum: the FUTURe of our dual language program

The SVE PTA hosted AISD district leaders on Wednesday, September 24th to discuss the proposed plan to relocate the wall-to-wall dual language program from our campus. We were well represented by teachers and English- and Spanish-speaking parents, and our voices were heard. While not a lot of new information was shared, we did learn that:

  • wall-to-wall dual language programs (like our current program) will become non-zoned
  • students already in the dual language program will still have access, just at a different school
  • the trustees' goal is long-term stability for the entire district in the face of state pressures

CONVERSACIÓN COMUNITARIA CON EL SUPERINTENDENTE

RESUMEN DE LA REUNIÓN DE LA PTA DEL 7/10

Tuvimos una gran asistencia a la primera reunión de la PTA del año, ya que el tema de discusión fue el plan de consolidación de AISD y la respuesta de la PTA de SVE. La Sra. Navarro habló y trabajamos en grupos para priorizar nuestras preocupaciones para que la PTA las abogue. Lea el resumen de la reunión en el último boletín de la PTA. CONSOLIDACIÓN DEL DISTRITO

AISD ha publicado un plan preliminar para consolidar las escuelas. SVE está programado para cerrar el próximo año, y todos los estudiantes tendrán prioridad para continuar en la Escuela Primaria Odom, donde continuará el programa de Lenguaje Dual, fusionado con el alumnado de lenguaje dual más pequeño de Odom.

CALENDARIO DEL PLAN DE CONSOLIDACIÓN

El borrador del plan incluye secciones que describen los próximos pasos para el personal y las familias. Los nuevos directores se elegirán en diciembre y el personal se integrará en su mayoría en enero. (En la reunión de la PTA, hablaremos sobre cómo podemos influir en este proceso). En primavera, los estudiantes podrán visitar su nuevo campus.

QUÉ PUEDE HACER

Asegurémonos de que el distrito conserve lo que nos apasiona de SVE. Así es como podemos expresar nuestras inquietudes y preguntas:

Foro: EL FUTURO DE NUESTRO PROGRAMA DE IDIOMA DUAL

La PTA de SVE recibió a los líderes del distrito de AISD el miércoles 24 de septiembre para discutir el plan propuesto para reubicar el programa de lenguaje dual integral fuera de nuestro campus. Estuvimos bien representados por maestros y padres de familia angloparlantes e hispanohablantes, y nuestras voces fueron escuchadas. Si bien no se compartió mucha información nueva, sí supimos que:

  • los programas de lenguaje dual integrales (como nuestro programa actual) pasarán a ser no zonales;
  • los estudiantes que ya participan en el programa de lenguaje dual seguirán teniendo acceso, solo que en una escuela diferente;
  • el objetivo de la junta directiva es la estabilidad a largo plazo para todo el distrito ante las presiones estatales
